ENVR 430 was truly a unique and hard-hitting course. I learned much more than "content" or lessons presented in class; to me this course was more about empowerment and learning how to bring about change. I certainly used to feel a lot of despair and helplessness when looking at all the climate change induced crises, and the ecological disasters caused by humans. But simply by working on possible solutions and tangible actions, I have learned that a lot of these issues are actually within my reach. Our final project were a great way to practice gathering community support and working to implement changes, however small, in our world.
Secondly, I really appreciated hearing from my classmates on various topics discussed in class. It is clear to me now that there are a lot of passionate people at UBC, all with unique voices and perspectives. I'm grateful for Kai, Dana for this class and for introducing us to this safe platform for voicing these opinions and hearing from each other. The lessons I've learned here will stay with me forever as I continue to look for ways to support and work towards a sustainable future.
Hi Bita, I also feel a lot better about my role in sustainability in the future. I feel like change is actually possible which is something that I wasn't sure about before
It was definitely comforting knowing that there are other people out there that are also concerned about these issues!
Having a group which you can bounce ideas and get feedback from facilitated this class really well.
Likewise to you, I am so thankful that I discovered how passionate just UBC students are about these issues. I'm glad that I'm not alone in tackling the issues we talked about and hopeful that my classmates will be there alongside me in the future.
Hi Bita!
It was always nice to hear your input during class and I hope you continue to be an advocate for sustainable living! I agree with you that this class has been much more than content or lessons. It gave me confidence in myself to talk about the environment.
Good post! We are both looking for a sustainable future.
I was really nice to be part of a like-minded large group who care about things you care about, as sometimes it is difficult to find others who share the same ideas and thoughts you have.
