I envision a future where everyone has access to clean and drinkable water while realizing the significance of water too. Water should be accessible to all, unfortunately, clean water has become a luxury, instead of a basic human right. Millions of people do not have access to safe, drinkable water and it breaks my heart to see when those with access don’t realize it. When we have constant access to something, we take it for granted, and this includes clean water. We tend to waste water whether that is taking long or multiple showers, or washing the dishes in the sink with the tap running. We will not realize what we have or appreciate it until we don’t have it anymore. If we lost access to water that is drinkable, then only would we be able to realize the importance that it holds. The value that water holds is extremely large as it contributes to so much more than just drinkable water. Water also represents agriculture and basic hygiene. Agriculture will not be possible if we do not have access to water, and neither will maintaining hygiene, including showering, using the toilet, and brushing your teeth. We take water for granted as we do not realize the impact it has on our daily lives. A possible intervention is that governments are forced to allocate a certain part of the budget strictly to providing drinkable water to all of their people. This is not going to be easy, as governments in countries where clean drinkable water is not accessible tend to prioritize the budget towards other things. However, if we all start taking a look at the policies of parties before we vote, these small changes can start making a big impact.

Hi Gamen, I think you touched on a great point about how we will not realize what we have or appreciate it until we don’t have it anymore. That is why it is so important that we create initiatives and campaigns that focus on the fact that many countries are less fortunate and indeed don't have access to clean drinking water. Once we instill a sense of panic and anxiety, then real changes could be made.
Can't agree more with your point on "we will not appreciate it until we don't have it anymore". I think that it is essential now for us to run more educational campaigns so as to raise awareness of the general public about water crisis. What are your thoughts on governments of countries that do not prioritize clean water affordability for their people?
This is beautiful, Gamen! I completely agree with your vision - especially your opening statement! EVERYONE should have free access to clean drinking water! And have it PLENTIFULLY! This is possible, and is truly the greatest gift we can give to humanity - those of us who have the technology and resources must help us drill more clean water wells - especially in places were we have gone without for far too long! Where there is deprivation of that which is essential for life, relief must be supplied immediately and adequately!
Yes I agree that for many, access to clean water is often taken for granted. I think your solution can be a useful method in terms of implementing a top-down control that guarantees water to all of the population. However, as you said, this will not be easy as countries that don't have access to water often have other issues to worry about as well, so perhaps an international support to provide drinkable water to everybody is also an option?
Many people cannot realize how precious water is, even though they are highly educated. In addition to government intervention, I think it's also important to educate everyone about the preciousness of water and future shortages, so as to reduce water waste.
I like your post and share the values in everything you say, but also have one challenging question. If we actually start looking at the policies of parties before we vote, and one party would conserve our water (or otherwise framed, restrict our excessive water use), do you think this party would get a majority?
I think you identified a key area of concern–government spending–that sometimes results in clean water scarcity! Especially somewhere like Canada that is extremely wealthy, it is astonishing that we still have boil-water advisories in some reserves communities and small towns. I'm curious how, in places with significantly less wealth, you think this should balance out with other spending priorities. For example if a government is choosing between building water infrastructure and building hospitals, how should they choose? In those situations government expenditure may be less about neglect for this issue and more about limited funds in many cases.
I really agree on your point on how water, which should be accessible to everyone in the world, became a luxury for so many people
Totally agree! Everyone has individual to save water, because everyone needs to drink and use clean water.
Hi Gamen, I can’t say this enough, but people don’t value water for how precious it is! I agree that authorities and governments should put more money into protecting water and making it safe for everyone to drink.
Hi Gamen, I agree with your statement that we take water for granted! I think each and every one of us should look at how we use water and how much we actually waste it. Furthermore, we should take a look into pushing the government to ensure everyone in Canada has access to drinking water.
I totally agree, clean water is a luxury and a basic human right. I really like the idea of allocating a certain budget that focuses on clean drinkable water for everyone. It can start out small but ultimately these small changes can create larger changes with the goal of making sure everyone has clean water supplies.
I agree taking those small steps into the right direction will someday make a large enough impact to allow everyone to equal access to clean water.
I admire the empathy you have for those without equal rights to water as we are used to- and privileged to have. I definitely agree that the value of water contributes to more than just its hydrating properties, but for hygiene and agriculture
I agree, more people need to realize the significance of clean water. Having water insecurities could be a future for everyone if we dont manage our water ways properly
Great post! I am curious which of the technologies we looked at in Brave Blue World you would find most compelling for the task giving water-insecure communities in Canada more access to the clean water that they need.
