My vision for the future is that food security is addressed through sustainable forms of agriculture. This vision relates to my values of protecting the earth and that I believe everyone has the right to have enough food for them and no one should experience food insecurity. After this week's lecture I realize there are two main problems with this, 1. People need to get enough food which is not possible with current 'sustainable' farms and 2. It is incredibly hard for most farms to be sustainable. My intervention/solution comes in at the provincial/federal level, I would like to see more grants and subsidies for farmers who are willing to transition to more sustainable farming practices. This will help increase the amount of sustainable farms which will also help produce more 'sustainable' food.

Thank you for this wonderful post, Allison. I love the idea of introducing grants for sustainable agriculture! Said innovation would facilitate access to capital for creating diverse, perennial polycultures. Improving access to capital for 'rewilded' agriculture is critical since Kai mentioned in class and The Biggest Little Farm demonstrated that such agriculture requires substantial initial investment and follows a different pattern of annual crop returns.
Hey Allison! You make some great points! I think it's so important that funding be redirected toward sustainable alternatives for everyone, rather than continuing to subsidize harmful traditional agricultural techniques. You stated that you think funding should be increased overall however, owing to the food security faced by many in this country. I wonder what things we could look toward to draw funding away from to move it toward agriculture?
Hi Allison! I also hope that in the future no one would have to experience food insecurities.
I agree that there should be a shift towards more sustainable farming. I'm curious if you have any more ideas on how to support farmers in switching to such farming methods? If we were to add grants to switch practices, would we have to remove other forms of grants (as money is finite)? I'm curious about your ideas :)
Hey Allison! I really liked the portion of your post where you highlight how the main intervention needs to come at the provincial/federal level. - sustainable farming should definitely be implemented but it is also important to have adequate food supply to feed the population!
