I envision a future where I can eat as much sugar without being as risk for various diseases. I dont think I could ever give up on sugar to even a healthy limit. I know it's bad but to me, enjoying desserts is a big part of my life. I know the risks of eating too much sugar (ex: obesity, type 2 diabetes, etc) but that doesn't stop me from my tea time sessions when I eat some dessert with tea to balance it out and it doesn't stop my friends and I from going out to get desserts after eating a meal. Unless sugar is later determined as a drug, I don't think I will be able to decrease my sugar intake.
Therefore, I think a solution could be to make a law that declares sugar to be a drug and allow people to only buy it in very limited amounts like over the counter drugs, or not at all.
Hi Sharon! I found your post interesting! I think it's true that sugar is extremely addictive and hard to stop consuming all together. I feel that if there was greater awareness brought to the harm of sugar consumption, businesses may feel compelled to make sugar-free options more popular due to the shift in market demands.
Hi Sharon,
I was very intrigued by your post! As we learned in class sugar can be really harmful and can cause a lot of damage when over consumed. I think that more health and dietary education could help with this problem, and also more transparency from companies creating processed foods that are high in sugar.
Hi Sharon! I wholeheartedly agree; sugar is definitely comparable to any other drug, especially in terms of its addictive qualities. It would be interesting to see how people would change after such a declaration.
I totally agree that it is extremely difficult to have sugar within a healthy range. Along with limiting the amount people can purchase, declaring sugar as a drug can also make people view it more negatively, discouraging the consumption of it.
Hi Sharon, I also agree that it's highly unrealistic for the general public to abandon sugar completely, it is, after all, our main energy source since time immemorial. Great job!
Great post! I really like your intervention that there should be a limit on the amount of sugar purchased. Like you mention, the majority of us would not be able to give up on sugar.
