It may be a sensitive subject but the truth is that we are all going to die.
I believe our deaths should beget life and that our current death care practices shouldn't prevent ecological interactions between our body and nature. I envision a world where everyone can be presented with alternative options like alkaline hydrolysis and natural burial. We need to be more open to conversing about death and the options of death care practices. If people can understand the consequences of anti-ecological death care practices, they will be more likely to choose differently about their own.
Consider how death care could be transformed into health care if it were the extension of conservation. A Conservation Burial Reserve would remove death care from the domain of profit margins and be more pro-nature and pro-climate.
Hi Hooria,
Most definitely! I believe giving people the option is the bare minimum that funeral homes can offer. Like you said, it is a sensitive subject but one that needs to be addressed. We should normalize choosing what happens to our bodies after we die and not let our loved ones choose for us.
Hi, Hooria. I agree with the idea that people could have alternative options for death. We need to discuss more openly and freely to this topic to get to know this topic better and thoroughly.
Hello Hooria! Prior to this week I actually didn't know about aquamation :( I feel that it's a great alternative to cremation and burial, and that normalizing the conversation about death care so that people know about their alternatives and impacts are key to more sustainable death care practices being widely used.
Great post! This topic was very new to me, so I agree that a lot of people might choose differently if they knew more aabout this issue.
For sure, if life is a journey, then death is surely the destination. And if all deaths are certain, then maybe we as a society should be open towards talking about what should happen to us when we arrive at the destination. Promoting discussions around the topic of death would be a great start for adopting alternative options.
I agree increasing awareness of different options death care practices is a great idea!
