I talked to a friend of mine about limited water resources. She was shocked when she knew about day zero. I thought of bringing it up because my friend is into social issues and likes discussions that are influential. During the conversation, we approached our claims in two ways, Firstly, we discussed the issue of over-consumption. Then, we talked about the big picture of limited resources. Both of us have different thoughts on why people attempt to overconsume. I thought small acts like taking showers instead of bathing could already make a vast difference but many of us might not even do such small acts. My belief was overconsumption must have some association with social status no matter what. Due to better affordability, wealthy people would not have to worry about higher living costs. So, they do not have to think about money as much as lower-status people do. My friend did not agree with me and pointed to individual preferences. In the end, we did not reach a conclusion, but both of us acknowledged that we could not manipulate minds and thought that we could do nothing about it if one insisted on being ignorant about climate change.
