Check out this petition for a Canadian Just Transition Act. I think it relates to many of the levers and leverage points (because a strong Just Transition Act would encompass so many sectors, not just energy!), but especially lever 3 (strengthening environmental law) and leverage point 4 (dismantling inequalities).
From Jennifer with 350.org: "The latest IPCC report has made it clear there is no future for the fossil fuel industry if we want to avoid catastrophe. Hundreds of workers and communities showed up on March 12th to lean into our collective imagination and put forward a bold, transformative vision for a Just Transition Act that supports communities through the transition to a green economy. Now we need Ministers Wilkinson, O'Regan, and Qualtrough to listen to the people and the science, and legislate a Just Transition Act before the year is out."
I am at odds with petitions to the gov versus separate initiatives which people can do every day. I'll sign it but then people still heavy on the metal race from light to light in V8's. We each one of us are not being responsible, how on earth do people expect gov to do everything while we full grown adults keep wasting energy right in front of us?
I organized one of the Just Transition Day of Action events that took place on March 12. I had never done something quite like that before. 350.org was one of the sponsors was was extremely helpful to guide the process. I liked that there was enough flexibility to organize an event that aligned with local community conditions.
As a part of the event, we also collected signatures for a petition that I hope to forward soon to our local MP. The attached document is the the toolkit we are using to do this. You may find this helpful if you want to go a step further and start a local petition. In keeping with Parliamentary Petition protocols, you only need 25 signatures.
